Innings of: Monks Park II
Match report to follow St Michael’s held on for a draw in an exciting game against Monks Park II that went down to the last ball of the match. Mick’s skipper Ian Geddes won the toss, and for a change decided to bat first. The St Michael's innings was steady early on, the Monks Park bowlers keeping a tight line, restricting the run. It wasn’t until the last third of the innings when big Brian Ahearn and the diminutive Dave Tebbutt lashed out that the innings gained some impetus. The final total of 154 was challenging, but with the wicket slow and aiding the batsmen, one that was certainly not out of reach. Monk’s Park batted in fits and starts in difficult bowling conditions, with Jani holding the innings together. Come the last over, the visitors needed 9 to win. St Michael's opening bowler duly sent down a gift with the first ball of the last over with Jani duly despatched for 6 over mid wicket, putting the Monkey’s within touching distance of victory. But Baker fought back, delivering 5 dot balls in a row to secure a draw and 12 points.
