Match report
In a dress rehearsal for next week's Garnett
Cup semi-final, St Michael's eased to a comfortable 208 run victory at Abington
Park against Northants Stars.
St Michael's batted first, and with the short
boundaries and some generous bowling, the runs were soon piling up. Dale
Harrison was first out for 16 when he was run out following a bout of confusion with opening
partner Malc Swann. Justice soon followed when Swann was himself run out, also
for 16. Trev
Kirby tucked into the bowling, striking some lusty blows before being caught on the long on
boundary for 29.
Then The Bear took over. He tucked in with
gusto, striking the ball to all parts of the ground. He reached his century in
the 44th over, hitting 6 sixes and 9 fours in the process. He was well supported
by Ian Geddes, able to bat without watching the clock for once, and then Dave Allen.
Tom Marlow enjoyed some late lusty blows to bring the final total to 273.
The Stars reply lasted less than an hour.
Instead of waiting for the bad ball, The Stars' batters threw the bat from the
off. The chief
destroyer was skipper Ian Geddes. Following one from last Saturday's 5 for 6
against Doddridge, the St Michael's ginger slipper took 6 for 14 to rip the
heart out of the Stars' innings. Simon Cannell took three simple catches to what can only be described as
slogs, whilst Malc Swann took 2 nonchalant one handed catches at slip. Shakeel
hit a quickfire 32, but proceeding were over by 5:30. Next Saturday sees a quick re-match. Let's hope
the result is the same.
